The project More than nothing. Less than something introduces, summarises and somehow concludes the big period of the artist’s practice, when she used to work with the environment as a semantic space. During this time, Olia studied the mechanics and the issues of the (trans)formation of meanings and senses through performative intervention into natural landscapes, aiming to look for and unveil the gaps in them – the points of uncertainty and «volatility» of language, its misunderstandings, and miscommunications. Gently interfering with the space, she observed how it would welcome her presence (or not), and how the perception of this space changed due to her actions. The artist’s own body or the temporary objects that she placed in the space became, therefore, triggers for the meaning formation, and couriers for interpretations and connections between the space and a viewer. This period came to an end when the full-scale war in Ukraine erupted – since then it became impossible for Olia to work with the landscapes, spaces and environments objectively, without seeing them through the prism of home-sickness and feeling of unsafety.
The exhibition includes artworks from different series made in 2020–2021.
